Stress-Free Switcheroos
We believe students should experience the expertise of many music teachers throughout their life and that it is healthy and exciting to try new teachers - just like in school. Some teachers are with you for a reason or a season but rarely a lifetime!
Should I be considering switching teachers?
Reasons to switch:
- Feeling in a rut
- Needing a change but can't figure out why
- Outgrowing the teacher
- Trying a different personality/ teaching style
- Trying a different music style
- Adding a new instrument or switching instruments
- Wanting something more serious
- Wanting something more fun
Or just because you want to...
When is the best time?
Any time is the perfect time to try a switch, and the first switcheroo lesson is on us! It's a stress-free chance to explore not only another instrument, style or project, but also another teacher. Let our team know you'd like to try a switcheroo and we'll connect you with another fab teacher to try.
What if it doesn't work out?
Confidence Building/Confidential Sample: Sometimes you may not be sure, and that's completely normal! We can usually offer the option to see a teacher online for a 15 min meet and greet with no strings attached. If it isn't magical from the beginning, no harm no foul. Or you can try lessons with another teacher for the summer and often, if it's not your thing, return to the previous teacher. Be sure to talk this over with our team so we can help you make the right plan.
I don't want to hurt my teacher's feelings!
Our teachers are all trained professionals with their own exciting and unique musical backgrounds. They have had the joy of experiencing multiple teachers throughout their own musical careers and have lived through the experience of switching teachers first hand. They won't take it personally! As any good music teacher would, they want to see your child continue their musical growth for a lifetime.

Stories
New Instruments
Rachel felt like her child’s piano lessons just weren’t going anywhere. Her child was bored and starting to disengage. They were thinking of dropping lessons because they needed something different to keep things fresh. Instead, she talked to the Meridee Winters team and decided to switch to a teacher that also teaches guitar and loves to incorporate games into lessons. Now her child is not only loving a new instrument, but also enjoying their piano lessons much more. Why didn’t she ask sooner? She was afraid to ask because she didn't want to hurt the teachers feelings or get them in trouble!
Our teachers will not be "in trouble" just because they weren't a perfect fit for one child. We maintain a vast, well-trained staff for this exact reason!
Growing Up
Janna was afraid of hurting her teacher's feelings, so she endured lessons she wasn't happy with. They loved her teacher and it was a great start, but now her teen wanted somebody more "chill and cool". The switch was a triple win! The teacher was relieved as she preferred to work with younger students, the more advanced jazz teacher was excited to get a more serious student that they could push further, and the family was thrilled with their student's exponential progress... so much so that they are taking 2 lessons per week and progressing at light speed!
We have many wonderful teachers that specialize in young beginners... but your baby won't remain a baby forever!
Improving Communication
Sarah wasn't happy with her teacher and felt they were in a rut. She talked to the office team and worked with a new teacher, BUT changed her mind after a few weeks and wanted to keep the same one. Why? Well it turns out she hadn't really communicated to the previous teacher enough about her goals and once she did, they had a great plan for moving forward! Sometimes all that’s needed is to communicate more!
There have been dozens of times when families move toward switching, but instead open the lines of communication with their teacher to express what they need in their music lessons. More often than not, things actually get better, and they end up both keeping their current teacher and enjoying lessons much more!
